these British prisoners was very hostile. Later on, however, after hearing news of allied successes, their attitude changed, and the majority of the warders now working in Stanley Gaol t-eat the British prisoners with consideration and dislike the

23. There are now 11 Chinese working in Stanley Gaol:

One fitter

shoemaker

## tailor

Three cooks

One boy

Two drivers

One electrician

One carpenter

These all live in the gaol and are only allowed to leave the gaol very occasionally.

One of the former cooks, now replaced, was beaten up and killed by the Japanese for stealing.

After the bombing of Hong Kong, rations for the Chinese staff were also considerably reduced.

24. Stanley Internment Camp. Internment Camp now includes:

lb. bread daily.

Ration for internees in Stanley

1 ox for the whole camp daily

Vegetables

Fresh fish

very little.
